| We're back at Mason St
The Gym is back at Mason St on November 10th.
The BayFit Leisure Centre is undergoing a $11.46 million renovation which is being overseen by the Hobsons Bay City Council (HBCC). Upon completion the Centre will be officially renamed BayFit Leisure Centre (BLC).
The centre is currently operated by Leisure Management Services (LMS) who will enter into a new lease with HBCC upon the completion of the project.
The centre has been operating in Mason St Altona North for more than 15 years, currently attracts 250,000 visits per year and has 1,600 Gymnasium members and 1,500 Learn To Swim Enrolments. When complete customer visits are forecast to increase to circa 600,000 visits per annum
The $11.46 million redevelopment, Hobsons Bay City Council's largest ever capital works project, due for completion in March 2008, will provide residents with first class fitness and leisure facilities.
The new BayFit facility will be a state-of-the-art fitness and recreational centre will benefit the wider Hobsons Bay community is due to be opened in two stages - Aquatics, Gym, Wellness and Café - December 2007 and Crèche Extended Gym April 2008 (Effective Project Completion).
The redevelopment includes a new 25 metre, eight lane pool, a new learn to swim and leisure pool with water play features, a new warm water program pool, a spa, steam room, aerobics room, a large gym, new change facilities for the aquatic areas, a 30-place crèche and a cafe.
The building will also include the latest environmentally sustainable design features including storm water recycling, solar energy, and the reuse of heat from the pool water.
A highlight of the BayFit centre is the use of the old pool to catch rain and storm water which will be recycled to top up the new pool. The Council has received a grant to build this innovative feature and several Councils have contacted Hobsons Bay looking to implement similar systems in their gymnasium facilities. Hobsons Bay is leading the way in developing environmentally sustainable facilities.
In summary, the newly completed centre will consist of
an eight lane 25-metre lap pool
a learn-to-swim and leisure pool
a warm water program pool suitable for aqua aerobics and injury recovery
a new gymnasium fitted out with brand new state of the art equipment
a new group fitness program room
physiotherapy, beauty, nutrition and well-being facilities
